To Be Sung To the Tune Of “Leavin’ On a Jet Plane”

(Incidentally, it’s totally appropriate for me to use this song, because it was written by John Denver, and he was my step-second-cousin-in-law.  Really.  I know, it’s vague, but we have to take our claims to fame where we can get them, right?)

All my bags are packed,
I’m ready to go.
My head says "yes",
My nerves say "no",
Have I mention just how much
I hate to fly?

They say it’s safer
Than a car.
But gosh I’d hate
To fall that far.
Oh man, I hope I’m not
About to die…

So miss me and pray for me.

I’ll blog it like I’ve never blogged before.

I’m leavin’ on a jet plane.
I sure hope I’ll be back again.
Oh babe, I hate to go.

This momma needs
A sedative.
My seatmate must learn
To forgive–
Because I tend to
Go a bit insane.

Even though I might
Barf in the aisle,
Meeting Big and Boo
Makes it all worthwhile.
Do you think they’ll mind
Carrying me off the plane?

So miss me and pray for me.

I’m leavin’ on a jet plane.
I sure hope I’ll be back again.
Oh babe, I hate to go.

I’m way behind here, so I’m not quite sure where you’re going…but you are so creative! And since John was so closely related like he was, step-2nd cousin in law and all, I’m sure it’s only right! 😉
Have a safe and wonderful trip!

Have a wonderful time. Just think of the girls waiting at the other end of the flight and the fun you are going to have. And I will now be singing that song all day. Thankyouverymuch!

Then you must know that his last name is really Dutchendorf (sp?). My parents live in the same neighborhood as his aunt and uncle. At least I think that’s the story… 🙂

I don’t mind flying but I’d be nervous as a cat to be on my way to meet any of the three of y’all… the bloggy heroines of the internet. I hope, no I know! it’ll be a rollickin’ good time with lots of those moments where everyone gets giggling so much that all of your eyes are watering and none of you are actually making any sound at all. Y’all give each other hugs for the rest of us, okay? And have a safe flight. DO NOT BARF IN THE AISLE. OR ON YOUR OWN SHOES. BAD FORM.

Love the lyrics. But the Mike Huckabee playing a guitar?? Where did you find that?! It is perfect as I picture you plucking your guitar and being like your intimately close relation John Denver.
    Have a WONDERFUL time!

That man I married lived in Aspen and saw JD about town and in concert. He does not, however, have the same feelings for JD, The Carpenters, Abba, Elton John, etc that I do. I remember all of that great music from when I was a little kid riding with my parents (often to CO) in the back of the blue VW station wagon… the one my goofy brother called a dune buggy. What a nerd.

Wow! First – Have an absolute blast w/ Boo & Big (from whom I linked to your blog – hello) this weekend. And many prayers for an uneventful flight. Second – I checked out your post from 10/18 on Casting Crowns and their “White Dove, Fly High.” Thank you for that – it was wonderful. We are currently living outside of the US of A and very often it is thru “blog-lurking” that I connect to what is happening at home. Because Yahoo News and CNN are just not as inspiring as real, live, normal people. So you just sold another Casting Crowns CD! – in a matter of speaking. Thank you and I love your writing. And I also love JD – first concert ever, 10 yrs old at UC Davis – sang along with my mom & sisters. Kinda scary :).

I am so jealous! I hope you have a great trip. I would love to go. We are thinking of going to see them when they come here in a few weeks. I can’t wait to hear all your stories when you get back! Very cute song too!

Love it! I hate to fly too! I wrote a whole post on it, lol. I won’t link to it because that would just be in bad taste, and I’m all about good taste, you know.
I hope (know) you will have a GREAT time! Once you get there, that is.

    I love the parody!
Hey, my mom went to high school with John Denver…how many degrees of separation does that make us?
    Have fun on your trip!

That’s awesome! I’m sure it will go just fine and the wonderful time you’ll have with friends will make the stress of getting there and getting home again all worthwhile.

    Shannie’s Song
Don’t fill up the barf bag like a pregnant young woman
Like a wino at Mardi Gras, like a kid on Halloween
Like you’ve had too much dessert, like you just rode a coaster
Don’t fill up the barf bag, don’t start turning green.
Go let them hug you, have fun with Big and Boo
Go drown in their laughter, soak up Southern charm
Drink diet Coke together, keep the mem’ries forever
Go have a good time; make plans to go again.

I feel your pain. I HATE TO FLY too! I’ve made a pact with myself that I won’t let my fear stop me from doing things. But the more I fly to more afraid I am.
I’m proud of you for not giving into your fear – you will have a great time for sure!

I have a secret love of…karaoke, and Leavin’ on a Jet ummm… *embarassed* Fun to sing!
Can’t wait to hear more– about the whole trip!

OK, that’s really wierd. My hubby is always telling me he’s related to John Denver in some distant way too… So is it possible you two are related? : ) I’ll have to check on that.
I’m loving all of the updates from you and the other girls! So fun that ya’ll are letting us tag along on your weekend! : )
