Hello, my Works-For-Me friends! I had a little WFMW withdrawal over the bloggy break. I awakened on Wednesday with a sense of panic: however shall I navigate this day without finding 47 new uses for vinegar?
So welcome back! Here’s my quick trip I learned over the holidays, by watching that great source of useful human knowledge: the DIY network. You know those annoying little "dents" left behind in your carpet when you move something heavy off it? And even when you run your fingers over it, it still stays all smooshed down?
Turns out, if you’ll just drop a piece of ice in the dent, the slowly melting water will cause the carpet fibers to swell back up. It will dry, and your carpet will look as good as new. I tried it myself with the dents left behind by our Christmas tree, and it really worked!
And how satisfying to know that an evening of mindless cable television can be useful.

aHEM! I was so excited about this (was waiting up to post — I’m such a nerd) that I forgot to put my description by my name. Shannon, feel free to delete the first one, if you’d like. π
As for your tip, that’s a GREAT one. Thanks!
I’m glad you’re back. I MISSED you — and WFMW.
Interesting tip – I’ll try that π
I’m always amazed to find a simple tip for a common problem. This is great to know!
When we moved, I bought a bag of ice from Sonic for $1.22. Just poured those little suckers in the creases and voila!
Yep…when we moved, I took all of the ice from the ice maker and placed them in the little dents. They worked like a charm!
I’m glad WFMW (and bloggy giveaways of course!) are back up. Thanks!
Oh I can’t wait to try the ice trick! What a great tip! Hope you had a GREAT New Year’s Day…too bad the Razorbacks couldn’t help make it any better!
I would have never thought of doing that! Thanks for the tip! Welcome back!
This is an awesome tip! Thanks!
Thanks for the tip- I’m going to try it when I take our tree down tomorrow!
Stephanie
I have heard of this before but have never tried it. I may need to rearrange my living room to try it out! Thanks!
Good idea–I’ve heard there are little sticks of colored putty that you can buy to rub on the furniture where you get scrapes that will “erase” them (or rather cover them up).
Going to try this on a spot of carpet with some dents from a side table I moved earlier this evening. Thanks a bunch!
What a great tip! Must try it out.
I love the ice cube tip. No fuss, no muss!
Thanks, I’ll try it…when I finally undecorate the tree. I love all the tips I find here.
Even if you’ve heard tips before from TV or magazines, most people can use a reminder now and then. Thanks!
Thanks for the tip, Shannon! And thanks for WFMW! It was missed last week! : )
That is so cool. Thanks for the tip!
My husband HATES the little dents – They never bothered me, but THANKS, now I can move my furniture around again!
Ice eh? What a timely tip. I bet a lot of people have little Christmas tree dents.
Fabulous tip! Thanks for sharing and thanks for hosting!
Great tip! I will be sure to share with all of my carpeted friends!
Thanks for this. There are some terrific ideas out there!!
I’ll have to check this out! I have really heavy furniture, and on the rare occasions I can get Ornery to help me move it, there are always divots in the carpet. It’s almost enough to make a girl want to leave things where they were. Almost! π Thanks for hosting, Shannon. It was really hard for me to think of something today, since in my mind it should be Monday.

Happy New Year! Here’s to a year full of WFMW posts!
Great tip! I’m contemplating moving the furniture in my living room, and it’s nice to know that I won’t have to look at those dents for weeks and weeks!
Thanks for the tip! We are moving soon and I will have to get lots of those dents out of the carpet π
Happy New Year! Here’s to a year full of WFMW posts!
Thank you, Shannon!
Love the ice cube trick! I have a dent from furniture we moved to make room for the tree… I’ll have to try it today! π
Thanks!

Thanks!
Love that idea!
This is my first entry! It’s for all those who have ever “ruined” a dry erase board by using a permanent marker.
I’ve read about the ice cube trick. Have never had to try it. Glad to hear it works. Ice works to help remove candle wax too.
Shannon- I have no idea how the little smiley face popped up. Delete it if you want to.
Great tip, Shannon!
What a great tip!
What a great idea!
I’m new here this year too! And I just realized I didn’t put my tip in (). I’ve done the ice cube thing before–definitely a good trick!
Another great Wednesday! I almost forgot to submit mine this week and it is a GOOD one! π
Happy New Year!
As always, thanks for hosting! Happy New Year
This is my first time joining in! Thanks for hosting this fab idea, and for the tip on carpets!
This is my first time, too. I have three preschool boys… I need all the tips I can get.
Great tip! I’ll have to try the ice cube thing on the dents from my Christmas tree stand. Thanks!
OOO vinegar…maybe we need a “homemade cleaners” themed W4MW!
Great idea! I’ll have to give that a try the next time I have dents. π
now that the chaos of the holidays is done, it’s good to get back to a “routine” and WFMW is one of my fave’s!
Being in the carpet industy I can say this tip does work for those minor indentions. If you have piece of futniture that has been in the same place for years it will may not. Take a brush and brush the spot first and then do the ice. You may need to repeat the cycle a few times.
Love your WFMW – I finally had one to add this week. Always love reading your – especially this one – I have baby gate marks that won’t go away. Thanks for everything.
I just added you to my favorites list!
We are without couch right now, waiting for the delivery of our new one. Well…lookie lookie dents in my carpet! And it worked! I was so excited that I had to show the hubby since he thought I was going nuts! Such a great tip. Thanks!
Thank you, Shannon!
“As it turns out, 1984 smelled a lot like pickles. ”
I just read back a way in your blog (which, it turns out, I LOVE), and this one made me laugh so hard I couldn’t open my eyes. Whew. Thanks.
If I think of any helpful tips, I’ll let you know – my mother gave me Hints and Help from Heloise as a wedding present – in 1992.

I did it! Two weeks (sort of) in a row!
OK, sorry for the double-post there. Newbie here. The SECOND link takes you to this week’s WFMW. The first can be deleted (please).
Thanks!
Sorry! I just added my name on the link thinking that was for the giveaway! I didn’t have a helpful hint…..
